Our MIssion

We believe every person has the right to be healthier through time in local nature.

To achieve this we are working to connect a network of communities, businesses, outdoor places and guides over the next ten years, together inspiring 1 million naturally healthier lives. At the heart of that is a vision to work with 100 places and 1,000 organisations - promoting events, tools and knowledge to support natural health for all.

Central to this are the farmers and landowners who tend the land we all depend on. By connecting land, communities and practical knowledge, we believe we can build something that takes real pressure off the health system we all care about.

WHY WE’RE DOING THIS

We want to help people, society and our natural environments to be healthier. And we believe that nature will become increasingly important in helping us achieve this.

Our work is in the context of some serious challenges:

  • Key measures of our health - including healthy life expectancy, mental health and obesity - are getting worse

  • There is evidence that we are becoming more and more fragmented and polarised as a society

  • The UK is one of the most nature depleted countries on the planet

  • Our farmers – the people who we rely on most for food and to tend to outdoor spaces – are among the most stressed in the country

  • And all of this is happening when access to health, healthy food and nature is more difficult to people in lower-income parts of the country.

When we think about these things towards the future, knowing that our health system is under increasing pressure, it becomes more and more important to work on positive and preventative aspects of natural health - not just for individuals, but for our whole health as a society.

THE POWER OF NATURE

Over the past 20 years, people have started to recognise the value of nature to our health.

  • Nature supports better mental health

  • Nature plays a preventative role in physical health

  • Nature helps people connect

  • When we give time to nature, it also heals itself

HOW WE’RE GOING TO DO THIS

We envision a country where local hubs for natural health offer the communities who live around them the skills and knowledge for staying well. These hubs will be formed by bringing together landowners and trained guides to offer our programmes in natural health. These programmes will include our work focused specifically on connecting, supporting, and celebrating farmers and growers – the people working hard, under a lot of pressure, to keep food systems going across the country.

We are working on a ‘Natural Health Certificate’ – helping people learn the skills and knowledge to stay healthier with nature, while building the confidence and connection to make it a part of everyday life.

Together – knowing that we have nature in common – we want to be part of a national movement that inspires healthier lives for all, and creates a country that is recognised as a leader in natural health.
